Over 2,600 women, and no way to get through a period with dignity.
In Sreemangal's remote tea estates, over 2,600 women face their periods without dignity. Earning just £1.50 a day, these tea garden workers cannot afford basic menstrual products and rely on cloth scraps instead.
It comes down to a choice between buying sanitary products and feeding the family, and the family wins every time. The silence around it does the rest, keeping shame, infection and lost working days in circulation.

Founders covered all operational costs, so members' contributions went to the project.
Seven months. Four things.
01

Menstrual hygiene kits
1,100 women received reusable sanitary pads and undergarments, made to last the full year of the programme rather than run out in a month.
02

Courtyard sessions
73 sessions run by local trainers on managing menstrual health, held in the courtyards where women already gather. Covered refreshments, session materials and fair pay for the trainers.
03

Measuring what changed
Baseline and endline surveys across more than 1,500 women, comparing those in the programme against a control group, so the change is measured rather than assumed.
04

Materials that travelled
Banners, carrying bags and printed guides, so what was learned in a session spread past the women who attended it.
