When the weather decides whether you eat, one bad season is all it takes.

In Sirajganj, families depend on farming that fails when the weather turns. Climate-vulnerable agriculture and long-term poverty keep households in a cycle where nothing can be planned for.

Beekeeping would break it. It pays steadily, and the pollination lifts the crop yields around it. What is missing is the skill, the equipment and a way into the market, and without those the work stays out of reach for the women and unemployed young people best placed to do it.

Founders covered all operational costs, so members' contributions went to the project.

Six months. Four things.

  1. 01

    Beekeepers receiving equipment

    Hives and colonies

100 bee boxes and their colonies, two hives per family, so each household started with enough to earn from rather than enough to experiment with.

  2. 02

male beekeepers setting up in sirajganj

    Safety and processing kit

20 complete sets of protective gear, suits, gloves and smokers, plus two honey extractors shared across the group for processing.

  3. 03

    Beekeeper training taking place

    Five days of training

Hands-on training for every family on modern apiculture, managing a hive, extracting honey and selling it.

  4. 04

    women being interviewed

    Processing and packaging

A basic unit for filtering, bottling and labelling, with consistent branding, so the honey sells for what it is worth rather than at a raw-product price.
